Iam having difficulty getting the clutch plate and shaft out through the top lid on my WD9.Does the engine have to be split or am I doing something wrong?

It will come out. you do need the bolts screwed into the pressure plate. the shaft is the hardest part. i did it last year on a w-9, make sure all the crap is outta the housing so you can push the shaft under there all the way, then it should come out, you just have to mess around withg it, when we were taking mine out my buddy messed around with it for almost two hours, screaming obscenities the whole time and threatning to pull the motor, i finaly got him outta the way and pulled it right out.

Did you put the bolts in to hold the pressure plate together?I think they are 3/8 x 1 inch bolts that go thru back cover and into plate. They need to be put in before clutch assy is removed from flywheel.
