Just picked up another tractor today, but I'm unsure what it is it could be a 300, 350, or 400. I need to see if any of you guys can tell me since my I-T manaul dosen't have that brake down of numbers. On the block it has 35698092 ,serial # 10092-----S Also these numbers on the tranny/ clutch houseing 358840-R1, and 359026-R3 Any idaes of what it is, I think maybe a 300 or 350. It also has a Norden 6511 wide front end and loader on it, it doesn't run but the engine is free but stiff. Payed $300 so I think we got a good deal on it Any help is nice and thanks for what you can tell me.

Did someone below say you had a pile of junk you'd bring to my house?....or was it the auctioneers wife love's to see you come to an auction with a pile of junk you got from my house? Gettin old can't keep these posts straight anymore.

Can't help with your real question but there were a couple of folks trying to give you a hard time that should make sure us old ones understand what they're talkin about. If they're jokin fine. Regardless it sounds to me like you did o.k for yourself. Good Luck!

Ya we think we did, its probably a 400 but not sure right now, go out tomorrow and get it running. We didn't get it at an auction we got it from a guy that bought some land and its was sitting there, engines free but very stiff and the wireing is shout since when you hook up a battery the starter kicks in so I'll have to unwire parts of it and probably just hot wire it so it can be driven out of where it is. Its so far back in the woods that its all you can do to drive to it with a 4 wheel drive so we know it will have to come out under its own power or its not comeing out.

Sounds like you're goin to have an adventure. At least the starter kicks in....assuming tires hold air too. Just think some of us folks will be sittin around tomorrow wishing we had a tractor to get out of the woods.

Keep us posted.

Well all the tires are low but do have some air in them, we'll bring a little 12 volt air compressor with us to fill them up. We will also do a full tune up and change the oil. I figure on filling the cylinders with tranny fluid first off and then do the tune up, then hook up the wires and spin the engine over with the plugs out, and when the cylinders are clear of the tranny fluid put the new plugs in and if all goes right it should fire up.

Old: Good show, at $300. it doesn't matter whether it be 300 or 400, still a good buy. That little fellow that was telling you auctioneers love guys like you, was wrong. Truth being they love the guys who show up looking for specific items and never dry up about them. They then know exactly who to run up.

I was at an auction few years back, I never go to auctions looking for specific items, just good solid bargains. Anyhow the auctioneer was calling for bid on a ten foot Gandy fertilizer spreader. I had walked buy it a couple of times, glanced at it, that is all. People were crouded around, I couldn't even see it. He started looking for $200., I did remember it had one flat tire. He started going down looking for a starting bid, went to a $100. in $25. drops, then he proceeded with $10. drops. At $60. I waved my hand, just as he took my bid someone yelled it's all seized up. With that he called a few more times, no bids, then sold. At the end of the auction I paid the man loaded it on my trailer and home. I was late so just left it on trailer overnight. Next morning I discovered the only thing seized was pivot of lever on tongue. In fact the whole machine was like new, agitators were free, slides on bottom were free. Looked to me like a part timer had bought this new, spread 3 ton of fertilizer and retired.

I used the spreader for about 8 years and sold it for $300. My friend bargains are the ones that happen to you, not the ones you look for.

I must be a funny guy. I decide I want something and then go out and find it. Never occurred to me to bring home anything I find and then try to figure out if I want it.

Your the kind of guy auctioneers love. They get you over and over again coming and then one big sale goin. :-)

Well we figure that the back blade is worth $150 and the loader is worth at least $300 or we have made a profit and still have a whole tractor to bute

The serial number could be for a 400 or 450. The engine casting number 356980R2 can be either tractor. Look around the area that you got the engine casting number from and there should be some more numbers C264 or C281, if engine hasn't been changed C264 is a 400, C281 is a 450. Also, look at bottom of clutch pedal, if there is a bolt and locknut to limit clutch travel it's a 400 if it doesn't have set screw and locknut it's a 450.

I'd like to get a trailer to haul my M with a wfe.
In fact, I have two of them. Located in WA state.
Any ideas on what to look for? What size or kind should I look for? These are big Farmall M's.
Thanks for any input

I'm pretty sure its not a 450 since its smaller then the 450 I have thats why I was thinking a 300 or 350 its parked in a very bad place and I have to get it running just to get it out of where it is

The casting # you gave for clutch housing and
trans. housing are the ones used on 400 & 450.

Well maybe its a 400 then, I know on the 2 point hitch its missing a lift stop my 450 has and like I said it sits lower then my 450, but that could also be because of the wide front and or the fact I have 750X16s on my 450. At least you have narrowed it down a little once I get it home I'll maybe know.

I'm very sorry old, but you have made a very bad mistake. You bought something that is just worthless, no matter what these fellows tell you on this post. But because I hate to see a fellow get stuck at an auction if you will deliver that pile (hate to call it a tractor)to my place I will pay you for your loss. And I hope we all learn a lesson to never, every think a piece of junk at an auction is worth any money! PS call before you deliver - my wife is touchey. LOL
