I am looking at a supposedly 1952 Farmall super H.
But from what i have been told so far they only built the super H's in 1953 & 1954.
I was sent some photos of the Farmall & of the I.D. plate, next to model it has SH printed on it & next to serial # it has 14083J.
It looks to be approximently 70% complete & the asking price is $750.00 with shipping on top of that.
I would really like to have a Super H as it would bring back child hood memories for my dad & my uncle, Grandpa farmed with a super H & so i would like to have one for my collection. Just don't want to get the funds together & figure out shipping on something that is not what i truly want.
Thank you & sorry for the long post.
Take care.
Ed

Well, the serial number and tag is legit. Look for disk brakes If you are not familiar with them, you can tell because they are hydrolicly operated. 70% complete? Complete restored, or 70% of what you need, now spend $1500 hunting the rest of it, complete? I would have to see the ad. Does the motor match? I really want a SH, but would be really heasitant to spend that kind of money.(If I had it in my pocket) Does it run? You would be better off to buy David Grindle's Super H. It's as nice an original that you will ever find. Further more, you will have the same if not more in the tractor you are looking at, by the time you get it together, and then you still don't know how good or tight it is. I think he only wanted like $2100 or something. It had everything, fenders lights, SUPER metal....I can help you..if you need anything, write me...AC

AC,
The disc brakes are not hydraulic, but a ball and ramp set up that are mechanically operated. A good way to ID the brake type is to look at the housings (which are just below where your feet sit, on the sides of the tranny housing). The band brakes have a smooth sheetmetal cover, while the disc brakes have a cast cover with about 5 or 6 bolts going through the cover. The band system uses a rotating lever that mounts on a post while the disc system uses a rod that goes straight in from the front, usually covered by a rubber boot.

My bad, I thought they were. I guess that's what I had coming for never owning one. Thanks...AC

Super H; 164CID GAS, 31hp DRAWBAR, 34.6 hp PTO, 3840 lbs, 5th GEAR 16.25 mph max, Units produced
1953 21,916 (S/N 501-22201 A few regular H's part of this effort)and 1954 10,052 (S/N 22202-29285. Both years for this group tallied 31,968 units. 28,691 Farmall Super H's were built in 2 years. A small number in this count were Farmall Super HV. Chassis prefix SH. This tractor type ended 22 Oct 1954. A darn good rig for lots of farm work in that era. Good luck on your purchase and restore effort.

That (ser num) should be correct for a '53 Stage I Super H. It would still have the battery under the tank, belly pump hydraulics. I seem to remember Stage II's started somewhere around 18 or 19000.
