I wish people who do not know would not guess at an answer. Dave_ID is correct, also the NE tractor tests say 33 drawbar HP, close enough to the IH rating.

According to Guy Fayes Data Book, the M has 34.44 hp on gasoline with the drawbar, and 39.23 on the PTO

About 25 HP on Drawbar and about 30 on the PTO.
However, slide in some oversize pistons, 4 1/32", and you'll gain another 5-7 HP to boost it over 30. That is what I did.
I had a 1950 Farmall M as well.

your horsepower ratings are very low.. An H is supposed to have 25.5 on the drawbar, not an M!! an M has about 35 drawbar horse, and close to 40 on the pto, and with oversize pistons around 45.. most should pull a 3 bottom plow without working them too hard..

Darrell; We pulled a 3-14 plow with SM in 2nd gear. We had some heavy ground, too heavy to pull in 3rd.
