I'm trying to remove the camshaft out of my H. Is it possiable to remove the front of the tractor and leave the rails and the engine in place? If not can the front end and the rails be removed and the engine still stay with the other half of the tractor? I'm trying to leave the engine attched to the tractor if you havent noticed seeing that the camshaft comes out the front I'm hopeing this is possiable. If you all know of a way to get timing cover and camshaft out by leaveing the engine attched to the rest of the tractors I'M ALL EARS!!! Thanks Dig

Dig, I just removed the front end of my H a few weeks ago. You can remove the front end assembly including the front wheels and front casting and leave the engine attached to the tractor. What I did was put a support under the middle of the tractor (I used a heavy duty jack stand) bell housing after jacking up the front end. That way the whole front end is cantilevered out. Then you can start removing the front wheels and front casting by removing the front side rail bolts. you can leave the side rails on and remove the front engine cover with and accessories so you can get the camshaft out. Those dowels are 5/8" course threaded, they should turn out, may need a little force to do it. Turned right out of my SM after being there for nearly 50 years.
