The D310 German came in the late 706 and all the 756. Your 806, if it's a diesel, came with the D361. You can put practically any "modern" 6-cylinder IH engine in that tractor with the right back and front covers. Either of the German diesels, the D310 or D358, will bolt in with minimal modifications. So will the D407 from an 856. The trick is finding a usable engine and not paying a fortune for it. I found a DTA360 out of a lightly-used prison bus on Ebay that's going in my Dad's 756. The newer "wet sleeve" engines start a lot better than any of those older engines. These include the D360, D414, D436 and D466, along with their DT (turbo) counterparts. They're a little more involved than a simple bolt-in. All four will require modification of the front cover if you plan on using the original frame rails. It's too wide by about 1-1/2", so you need to cut about 3/4" off each ear. The 414/436/466 will require lengthening the frame, or the use of 66-series frame rails. The nice thing about the D360 is that it's the same length as the older engines, so you don't have to lengthen the frame rails. All you have to do is redrill the front holes.
