It's snowing most incredibly hard here today and apparantly it has not yet reached its peak. There is over 25cm on the ground with another 25+ expected on into this evening and with the wind up at 70-100 km/h it's blowing around like crazy. I can hardly see the trees 30' out my window. All schools in the province are shut (that's the first time I've seen it happen in over 11 years). They've even pulled most of the snow plows off the road which is again a first in 11 years! Looks like I should be able to get plenty of seat time with the Super A from this! SAm in NS

What ever happened to all of the claims of Global Warming?

Wearing short sleeves and not even a coat here in mid GA. I know that spring is not here, but this is going to cause the plants to bud up and then we will have more winter to kill them back.

Mark, The "I'm not sure, but sounds like a good theory" global warming believers have been quite silent this winter. The wackos, in order to lend themselves a shread of credibility, rationalize by saying that harsh winters are part of the cycle of global warming. They wouldnt budge from their lofty position even if we were in the midst of a progressing ice age. Meaning, it isnt about global warming at all, its about rendering the industrialized and advanced nations impotent and powerless. They'd have us farming with oxen. Plus, if they didnt have a global warming issue to solve, they'd all lose their government grants to supply us with the answers.

No, no, no! You can't farm with Oxen! They give off too much methane! That just aggravates the global warming!

Peabody, I thought that as an alternative for oxen, that I could use the missus to pull a plow, but then I realized that she emits more methane gas than does a yoke of oxen..... ..... ..If she sees me type this, or reads this post, I'm dead.

Paul: Speaking of the oxen and since we are on the subject of a Halifax snow storm and now global warming. I have another friend that lives in sight of Sam and Murray. Lloyd was there long before Sam and a few years before Murray. I can remember going to Lloyd's when at 10pm you could see 4 other farmstead lights and that is all. Today it is as urban as they come. Ten years ago I was visiting Lloyd and his 75 year old father headed out into traffic with his IH Scout. In Lloyd's lifetime Cole Harbour Road has gone 1.5 lane gravel road to 4 lane main thuroughfare with a 5th lane for turning left.

I asked Lloyd how his father adjusted to the changes. Lloyd's reply,"He has adjusted better than I." Lloyd and I wondered aloud what enviormental impact it would have if everything that now moves by there in a day was moved by horses. We agreed that snowplows would need to be out daily cleaning up the horse dung, as it doesn't melt. I suspect the horse dung may be a bigger problem than exhaust emissions.

Hmm, I not sure that your current local weather is a good indicator of global climate. Regardless, you might have some good data. In that case, you should share it with those wackos at NASA and NOAA.

It sounds like you are mixing up two issues. One is the global climate and the other is industrial policy. Is the some advantage in denying the obvious ? Or is there any research that shows that the planet is not warming up ? Data from Rush's Excellence In Boasting Network does not count.

On a local scale, the thing that you would be most likely to notice is a trend towards stormier weather. The real problem with climate change or global warming is that more extreme weather makes it harder for farmers.

Hi Sam, this is the "BIG STORM" that you have been waiting to happen and it has arrived. May as well wait until the wind lets up as the visibility is just a few feet. Have fun and be careful. Murray
Note: The axles have not been repaired, yesterday when I phoned, answer was would be completed by end of week, now with the storm that will delay the time.

Murray: Can't you just imagion Lloyd and I standing on the side of Cole Harbour Road discussing the effects of horse manure, on the community. You might call us the last true environmentalists of the 20th century.

Sam: It's about time you guys took your share of this. My son in law in Halifax was rubbing it in last week on buying a new snow blower in Nov and only used it once as of last Sun. You were the same with your SA snow blade. Today I am going to sit on the patio in the sunshine and smile. You guys have fun, playing with your new toys.

I sure do hope your son in law can find his snowblower. It took me a while to dig the plow out, I couldn't even see it. Problem is with over 60 centimeters on the ground so far and more coming you can't really plow it, it's more like digging it and it's incredibly slow. I just wish I could drive this thing on the road (legally anyway). I could tidy up our road a bit and do a few driveways. If insurance for a year wouldn't cost me twice what the tractor did then I might be able to get it on the road which would make life easier. However all the cops are stuck at Timmy's or somewhere else and I haven't seen a plow since about 4 AM. SAm in NS

Hugh, Arent you glad you're in sunny, tropical Southern Ontario basking with a julip in one hand and a Cuban panetella in the other, while your unfortunate brethern are in the thros of a severe winter storm. Makes a feller wanna whistle "Dixie"..... Looking out my window this morning, I can't see much further than Sam. Its extreemly foggy, and while its supposed to reach high 30s F today, its back to sub normal tomorrow. It doesnt stop us Michigan farmers tho, we'll be spreading fertilizer ontop of 10 inches of snow. Couldn't do it without a couple of 4x4's. Its hard to tell which is worse, hitting the 2 ft drifts, or the 2 ft dredge cuts that sneak up on us. A Cat or so would come in handy right about now. Maybe we can get them to "Demo" a couple out to us for a few days....

Paul: My gosh you guys are just on the wrong side of Huron this morning. While we had a bit of fog early, nothing like your talking. Now at 10:30 sun is out in full force and the weather guy tells us it will reach +4 C today, personally I think it will go higher.

As for the guys on the east coast, remember they all gave me a dig about the +17C Christmas Eve at midnight. Frank rubbed me quite heavy on that one.

Hey Paul, You guys are lucky in Mich! In Vt you cant spread manure on top of the snow, I think after Dec 1, but yet 10 miles to our west in Ny, its no problem. Seems strange dont it ?
