The plug is on the outside between #2and #3 cyl the tube on inside will have to be squeeze down to slow the flow.

There was a line kit offered that would pump oil up to the tray. I noticed it in my W-30 manual, which used the same engine.

You coan fix them to oil from the oil pump. there is a plug in the head that you can put a line from the fliter to and make a tube in the head to flow oil into trough on the rockers

Have you done this? Where is the plug and how do you go about doing that. Will it work on the F-20 and F-30? Can it put too much oil on the rockers and cause it to smoke and use oil? That would be a good thing to do if it works out. More details would be nice. Thanks Fred.

Thanks for the reply Bob. Were all F series rocker-arms lubricated by manual oil cans?

I think you have to pour oil throught the tube's on top of the valve cover and this will travel into a wick lined trough that runs the length of the rocker arm.

That is the way you oil them. The F-30 has an oil pad instead of wicks but they dry out and get hard from time and heat. If the pad in the F-30 or the wicks in the F-20 have not been replaced for a long time you would be money ahead to take the valve cover off and replace them. It does no good to pour oil in the trough and it run right out on one or two rockers and leave the others dry. I have taken the valve cover off my F-20 and F-30 to find the wicks and pad hard and broken up. They were not working very good if at all. You can get the parts from Rice Equipment. Not a hard job at all. Good luck

I still have not really seriously tore into the F-20 that I have awaiting a restoration but I am curious. Are you saying that short of what a person puts through the oil cups on top of the valve cover that the rockers get no other oil once it is running?

Oil cups? The 2 cups on top of the valve cover are for pouring gas down into the intake prior to starting. Pour oil in thru the big single cap on the cover.

The F-30 has one hole with a cap the F-20 has 2 holes much smaller and they have spring caps on them. Sorry but I thought everyone with one would know that the primers were not what we were talking about.

Yes that is what I am saying. The only oil the rockers and valves get comes from the wicks and they are oiled only from the oil you put in the trough through the holes in the valve cover. That is why it is important to oil them often. I don't run mine a lot so I oil them every time I use them. As I said you need to know if the wicks are good. If they are not they will not oil like they should and you will have a problem in time. They are not hard to cheak and fix but need to be done. Good luck.

Whoa! I didn't realize that but it certainly is a good thing to know. I'll have to add to the list. Thank you.

Mike The F-12 And F-14 have the rockers oiled form the oil pump. I don't know why the F-30 and F-20 were hand oiled. I think the pump method is a lot better because people might not get enough oil on the rockers by hand. How long have you had the F-30?

Hello Fred, actually I have a F-20. It has been in the family since new. Belonged to Grandpa. Serial No.FA-63269. Set in a well protected barn for all it's life. This one has the faster road gear. It is a real cherry. We started it this afternoon. First time it has ran in over 30 years. Mike
