Hello, I have a W6 with the old 4 position light /charge switch . Does anyone know if the ( 5 ohm ) field resistor is still available Part no 47891 D . Or would anyone know of a good replacement for it that works well ? The old one was a flat piece of Mica with a coil wrapped around it , finally fell apart. Thanks ED

I tried to get one from IH and they told me it was no longer available. I found one at a salvage yard. If you convert to a voltage regulator in place of the cutout and change some wires you won't need the resistor. Picked up a regulator at Tractor Supply.

Its such a simple thing to make its a wonder OEM hasn't jumped on the idea to supply these. I realize I can convert to a regulator, but I'd like to keep the tractor original. If I ever do convert I will go 12 volt.

Thanks for your reply
Ed

You can get a voltage regulator that will mount on the generator and look just like the cut out. Then you won't need the resistor and your battery will last longer because it will be properly charged all the time. Of course it's not original, but no one except a real detail person that knows the wiring will know the difference.
