Would replacing the little gear on the starter help Super C to not get "Hung up" on the ring gear?? It would be a half fix, but at least I wouldn't have to split cmore...thanks, Cmore

My 200 farmall used to do the same thing. I believe it is the same starter as a Super C. I took the starter apart and found someone had installed the drive spring backwards. It has never hung up since I repaired it.

You're just putting off the inevitable. The bad flywheel ring gear is just going to eat up the new bendix gear in a short period of time. Splitting the Super C is not as scary at all, with the right equipment and improvision. And when you do, go ahead and check the clutch, throw-out bearing and rear main oil seal while you're in there.

Super-
We found on ours that the only complete fix for this was a new ring gear.

Mine won't hardly engage...not without sereral attemps at starting. Then, when it does catch, it usually starts right up. When it doesn't, you go through the rrrrr r----rrrrr r-----rrrrr rrrr---all over again until it catches. Must be only about 6 teeth on the whole ring gear!! CMore

I did that (replaced a worn bendix gear) on my SH starter. The new gear actually made the situation worse. Now when the starter jams, it sticks so tight I gotta loosen the starter mounting bolts to unstick it. With the old, worn bendix I could put the tractor in road gear and lean on the front of a rear tire - the bendix would generally pop free on it's own.

The leading (rear) edges of the ring gear teeth are badly peened over on mine. Soon as the cold weather moderates I'm gonna split tractor and replace the ring gear. (Fortunately it jams only 2 or 3 times a year…..but seems always when it is least convenient.)

Well if you mean the bendex it may or it may not depending on why it hangs up on you. If your bendex is bad yes it would help but if its because of bushings in the starter or a bad ring gear it may not help. I'd probably try it and see what happens
