We have had a question posed to us about availability and cost of main bearings for these engines, a potential customer is looking for a set(size unknown at this time), and a customer wants his 450D rebuilt and restored here, did some research and don't like what we're hearing. Now what??, Dale

I cannot vouch for this guy or if he still is in business, but several years ago he gave me a quote to rebuild MD main bearings for $50 each. I bought a new gear (the one that drives the injector pump) from him and it was OK. His name is Don Livingston in Austin, MN. Phone 507 433-0073. Roger

If crank needs turned you can get .030 set
for $325 at 320-468-6051 , if you want standard thats a lot harder.

Isold my SMD becuse of the problem with the main bearings being so expensive, unfortunatly, there not much else can be done except to buy them!Bates had them listed for 595 I think, and only sizes available were standard and .030. Ialmost bought a set,but decided it wasnt feasable for me to fork out the extra money.I had to have a lot more than just bearing.I was told that someone in RED POWER magazine was selling the for 375 a set, this was by the guy I sold the tractor to I think.

Dale the old IH diesels are a pain in the neck. they are easier to find parts for them then pay for the parts. www.batescorp.com has main bearing sets for this tractor but they are $595.00 a set. I have a 53 Super MD that i need to put a new engine in and it is going to be about 4 grand to do this then any other things that need to be replaced. The 450 is the same as the SMD so i know the prices already. I hope this helps.
