I have a 350 utiltiy with factoy power steering with Hydro touch. The tractor has an add on backhoe and front loader with crankshaft mount pump. The power stering doesn't work because the hydro touch system is restricted some where. Because the hydro touch will never get used due to the loader, could I plumb the power steering unit straight into the live hydro touch pump with a resevoir without hurting the p/s unit. Any help would greatly be appreciated. As most of you know a bucket full of dirt and no power steering don't mix.

No you can't tap straight into the pump. You need to trouble shoot your hydratouch system. Inside the hydraulic reservoir under the seat is where the filter/screen is. That could be pluged to the point that the pump is being starved for fluid. The hydraulic regulator will be the rear inside valve body. This regulates priority to your steering system. This could be where the problem is. Get a hydraulic pressure guage and plumb it to fit one of your hydratouch valves and check the pressure. Do the same thing for your hydraulic input at your power steering unit. After making all these check you still don't have any hydraulic pressure I would have to say your pump is shot.

It could also be that your pump is starved for fluid. I've had to "prime" my 300U to get the pump running after I unhooked the lines at the pump. I pressurize the reservoir to a few psi (I try to stick to no more than 10 psi at the compressor tank). Seems like the fluid needs a little push to get sucked up to the line to the pump. Once it gets going it works fine. If that doesn't work, check the filter screen in the reservoir. That's a heavy awkward job, best to use a engine hoist or similar to lift the reservoir cover.
