My question is how hard would it be to build a gas winch? cost? how much HP and what do i need... i have a honda 5 horse dont think thats big enough and also it has a threaded crankshaft so i dont think that would work??

Depends on how fast you want to winch. 5 horses with a 20:1 reduction ratio to the winch spool would effectively supply around 100 horsepower for pulling. And given your Honda should run around 3000 rpm divided by 20 for reduction the spool would be turning at 150 RPM.

Just some things to think about. Threaded crankshaft shouldn't make any difference...

5 horses with a 20:1 reduction ratio to the winch spool would "still" only effectively supply 5 horsepower.
