After Starting my 1206 during the cold months, The power steering takes for ever to kick in. It feels spongey. If I turn the steering wheel back and forth a bunch of times, it eventually kicks in, but often goes out again. Suggestions?

My 1206 steered hard in the cold until I changed the hy-tran and filter. My first suggestion would be to change those if you haven't lately and go from there.

Good luck.

The first thing to check is the filter & screen, look for any indication of moisture or ice, then clean the screen and replace the filter. If the problem persist with good clean fluid you have a suction leak or a weak hyd. pump. Many times prime is lost overnight, when this happens I've found that 9 times out of 10 the pump needs replaced. Filling the system 2gal. overfull will idicate if it is the hitch pump suction tube seal. Fluid covers the tube eliminating the leak.
