I am looking for a plow for a farmer down the road, and i have found a 2 and a 3 furrow. What one would work for the 300u?

i got a 56 and its got more gonads than traction i think it would pull a three bottom with no sweat if its weighted right.

Terry: No your 300 will never pull 3 bottoms with no sweat. Even in the easiest plowing the 300 will be loaded to the limit. Believe me I have plowed hundreds of acres with one when they were 40 years younger.

my dad had both farmall 300 and international 300 when i was in high school. the farmall pulled 3-14s easily. we didn't even try with the international. my brother and i called the int the traction master, because it had none. i vote you look for 2 bottom. you still may need to load the tires.

My father bought a new 300U in 1956. The dealer
said it was rated for a 2 point hitch 3x14 plow.
It pulled alright, but there was a lot of lost
traction in doing so.Another problem occurred in
that the front of the tractor reared up when you raised the plow without stopping first. He sent
the plow back and got a 2x14 in it's place.
Just my 2-cents.

Two bottoms is the way to go. If your ground is tough at all, plan on having the tires filled and adding some wheel weights as well. The 300U is a pretty light tractor for its power. Good luck.

I would agree with all of the other posts on here. Lots of hours on a 300u in front of a 2 bottom with 2pt hitch. Central Jersey has Red shale soil and 2nd to 3rd gear with the TA every so often. I live in South Jersey now and it is a giant cat box. Three bottom is no sweat down here. Sand soil the goes down several hundred feet. Haha Jeff

I've seen 300U's pull 2 bottoms fairly easily, I think 3 would only work well in pretty light soil. Two bottoms would be the way I'd suggest.

Just what I've observed, others may have seen it differently.

Farmallkid: I would go with the two bottom plow. On light sandy soils 300 will handle 3 bottom but everything has to be perfect. My experience also has been with the Farmall and I'm not sure the Utility will get as much traction as the Farmall.

I plowed for a number of years with Farmall 300 and a number 60 - 3x16 trailer plow. My soil was a sandy loam and that plow was a very heavy load for my tractor. I also had a 4x16 version of the same plow I used behind Farmall 560D. In the same field 560 would gain a round about every 6. If you just look at the hp ratings and weight, not hard to see why.

We pulled a 3 bottom with our 300U, back tires loaded with water and 1 wheel weight and 150lb weight bolted on front, they have more hp. than a straight M, tracton more a problem then power.
