Hi Guys,

I know this is just a silly old man reliving his past, but I'll tell my tale anyway.

I took the H out this morning and pushed snow with it for an hour or two.

I can't get over how just the sound of that old gal working can yank me back to when I was 12 years old and just learning to farm.

The price of the tractor is worth that experience alone. Good feeling.

Allan

Hello Allan,

I also understand completely. I don’t have any place to work my tractors, just drive em around town.

I have a ’45 H and a ’37 F-20. I have a lot of fond memories of driving the H. I also have a Case Model C. I bought it from a young fellow in Wisconsin (about 350 miles from me) site unseen other than the pictures that he emailed. I told him I would pay his asking price if he would deliver it to me!

I tell you when he arrived and cranked that little tractor over and it started up, immediately I remembered that’s the sound!! I had not heard that sound for close to 50 years. I had no idea that the sound of the engine would affect me in this way! Was really Great, and still is but, just not quite as thrilling as when I first heard it run on that day! :-)

Seems like a lot of us have memories of driving these old tractors when we were in our pre-teen years. Was work and fun back then, but now it’s just fun! My wife thinks I’m nuts!

Every now and then I just have to go into "Old Oak Farmalls" just to hear that W-9 and 130 start up. Then if that doesn't give me enough goose bumps, I go to "Chats tractors" and listen to his MD. I can hardly wait for spring to arrive so I can take the 52 H and the 40 A for a "test drive" around the section. What I really need to do is to be willing to risk scratching a little paint and work them a bit.

I have to agree with you on those sound files. They are just great. Now if you know how to use your computer and have a CD burner, Make a cd for your car or truck. IN windows media player is a listing on the left side where you can take a sound file and transfer it to an audio CD. when the screen comes up drag each file over you want to copy and it does it. Sit at a traffic light with that CD going with the W-9 just as the light changes! AS LOUD AS IT WILL GO!

Every time I climb on my H and drive it, I have the exact same feeling. My girlfriend says she just loves mowing the lawn with her cub, since the engine sings to her.
Here is a scan of the cover of Hoard's Dairyman. The photo was taken in 1958, when I was 12. I am in the white feed cap, holding the dog, while Willie drills grain with the H.

I know what you mean, I just came in from pushing snow with my H. I have been having fun seeing just how high I can pile it. I have a couple of piles that are close to 8 feet, my loader just won't raise much higher than that.

I don't have anything for my H to do but drive up and down the road, but I know what you mean about hearing it run. Interesting how much sound plays in memories. I can remember 12, altho' I'll be turning seventy this week. Wow! What happened?
