Can a tachometer from a 300 Utility be used on other farmalls? Would the difference in gearing to get accurate readings depend on the gearing in the distributor drive and cable, or in the body of the tachometer itself? Thanks for any replies.

The parts that drive tach are same for RC. or
utility.difference is tire size and ring and pinion and RPM. between tractors.even though RPM
would show on tach the same RPM for both tractors
the utility will be marked for higher max RPM.
Because of gearing and tire size on tractors the ground speed markings will be off when switching tach.Hope IM MAKING SENCE.

Thanks, Dave. Is that due to the internal gearing of the tach or the cable gearing?

Male Gayle;

The distributor tach drive is the same for all four cylinder distributors(I.H.) and the cable would not change anything. Any change in rpm for different tractors is made inside the tach.
