I'm trying to replace the axle seals and check the bearings. The deck has been removed, as well as the bull gear, axle housing and outside bearing cap. I am tapping on the inside end of the axle using a block of wood to protect the spline - but it doesn't want to push out. I haven't removed the inner bearing retainer. Do I need to tap harder or am I not doing this right ? thank you for any help.

I have had the same problem with my H. I screwed the bolt back into the end of the axel, placed a block of wood between the head of that bolt and the head of the bolt on the opposite axel. When you unscrew the axel bolt it will push out the stuck axel. Hope this helps.

The only thing holding it it the outer bearing and seal. Put a block of wood on the floor and gently tap the inner end of the axle on that (if you are strong enough). Had mine out, but don't remember exactly how I did it. The thing should pop right out.
