oil dripping from vent

Yesterday when I was feeding hay I noticed oil dripping from my engine vent on my 966 diesel. I usually have blow by but never oil dripping. I plan on overhauling anyway but wondered why this was occuring. Thanks guys.

I had blowby from the crankcase vent on my 484. It started off just blowing but ended up drippinq one drop of oil every 5 seconds. Engine is just about to go back together with new sleeves and pistons. Two of the three cylinders had broken rings!

Probably condensation from the cold weather. If you examine it closely you should be able to see both oil and water.

Blowby is a pet pieve of mine so what I do is adapt a hose of some sort from the crankcase vent tube over to the intake manifold.

If I can't find a pipe plug there, I drill a hole in the intake casting and add a pipe thread. Then it's just a matter of a hose barb and you are in business. On my JD, a piece of garden hose (green too) fit perfectly.

I think blowby starts a long time before an engine overhaul is necessary (assuming you don't have a rod knocking or something drastic).

I remember in the '50's seems you always saw blowby coming out from under cars. Detroit finally got smart and installed the PCV valve and the suction hose from the rocker cover to the air cleaner and life hasn't been the same.
