I bought an A this summer and I live in NY. The problem is it will not start when it gets under 32 deg F. The battery is good, I have spark and gas line is not frozen. It turns hard even when jumping - 12v system. I'm using 30w oil. Antifreeze is good. Any help would be welcome.
Thanks

Role the tractor down a hill or if you have a truck or jeep something that can pull the tracto tie a chain to the front and then put it in 3 or 4 gear and pop start it.

Loose the 30w oil and put in a good multiwieght. I got my H from someone who has used Mobile 1 10 -30 Synthetic and I went out last weekend and it started @ -24 below on 6 volt (it wasn't real happy about it but it started).I am not saying to use synthetic but get some lighter oil in it. Brad

Sounds like you probably have a weak starter and or to small of a size battery cables or both. I had a tractor that was doing the same thing a couple years ago and I replaced the starter and it starts any time I want now.

I use 15w40 in my h,I also replaced the cables
and fresh battery last month, made a big difference. Also my h needs very little choke to start any time.

Jab: I doubt if much else is starting in upstate NY this winter with 30w oil either. Kind of like sleeping with your feet out the window at -30F. You wouldn't move very quickly by morning either.

As the others suggest change to a lighter or multviscosity oil. I use 15W-40 year round in my 6 volt Super H and MM “U”. They crank and start reliably at 0 deg and below. (I’m in cold, snowy NY too...)

However if it cranks slow even when jumped on 12 volts you may have an electrical problem also. Look for undersized battery cables, bad cable terminals, worn out starter switch, a worn out/stuck starter brush or a bad solder connection inside the starter.

Go easy on that choke in cold weather, and get a winter weight oil in there. jimmy
