new bearings preventing starter from turning fast

the guy who is working on my superC replaced some shot bearings, i dunno what they're really called, but i will try to explain: They go inbetween the crankshaft and the arm that holds the piston on the crankshaft, and replacing them made the engine much quieter and prevented it from knocking.

Is it feasible that a starter that was previously able to start the engine would now (after the new bearings) be unable to start it because the engine is now tighter (harder to turn)?

It was able to start the engine once and she purred for about an hour. Then the next day he tried to start her up and the starter couldn't get her going fast enough (we tried another battery).

We are going to get the starter re machined if this is so.

Thanks!

Since you started the engine easily once, but now it turns hard, I smell a rat. You might want to drop the oil pan and look at those rod bearings. I would bet that either you spun a bearing, or you have a bearing that is nothing but broken pieces of tin. Not a good deal, in any event. Running an engine this way will only cause more damage.

Pull the oil pan and check the clearance with plasti-gage. It is a nice cheap way to get peace of mind.

Your new bearings should and probably are tighter than the old ones BUT the engine must still turn over freely. There is a space of approx. .003" or whatever your machines specs are between the bearing surface and the crankshaft. I don't believe your starter is the problem unless it's not getting the correct voltage/amps. Also what you had installed were connecting rod bearings.

IF the engine is completely overhauled the compression would be higher which would make the engine turn over slower
