Supporting SA lift arm from axle casting?

Hey, guys.
Looking at other factory three-point setups, it seems to me that a lot of companies screw the pins that hold the lower lift arms into the transmission or axle housings. It would be easy enough for me to get a Cat. I 7/8" pin with 7/8" NF threads and cut it down to 5/8" NC threads and screw it into the axle housing where the drawbar usually bolts up. I wouldn't put a whole lot of weight on it-- I'd be using it with a pair of lower lift arms connected to the upper lift arms (hydraulics) to pull a 5' bush hog and change pitch as needed. Is that too much strain to put on the axle housings? I'm not worried about paring the pins down from 7/8 to 5/8" because Cat. I pins are available in both sizes (the 5/8" are NF threads so they won't srew into the axle housing.)

I appreciate y'all's input (even if you do have to tell me this is a dumb idea!)

Darren: I don't see a problem with strength re, your idea. My first experience with 3 point for 130 was weld the 7/8 pin on a 1-1/4 round stock to fit in rear cultivator mount on fast hitch at final drive. The problem with this is 3 point equipment pulls well because front of lower links are hooked about 6 inches narrower at tractor chassis than they are on implement. Most implements being 28" the SA or 130 is very close to this between the final drives. I was using this on a corn planter many years ago. To solve this problem of corn planter wandering behind tractor, I used a cross member to hook lower links to, set in about 3" from each final drive.

If I don't sound clearer than mud e mail me.

Hugh,
You're crystal clear. If I can get these pins threaded and installed where I want them, they'll be just at 29" wide (if I'm remembering my measurements correctly.) I had looked at the cultivator mounts for my SA and discounted the idea, but now that you mention it that might be a lot easier than trying to cut new threads on those heavy pins... I think I remember seeing Cat. III to Cat. I conversion pins that had a diameter of 1-1/4" shank down to a 7/8" Cat. I pin... I'll have to go revisit that idea. Thanks for the info and for the idea!
