Of course some of the more recent IH's with 3-pts, wide fronts, diesel engines & more tire and weight are better, but a favorite over the many years is the old 460. Smooth, quiet, vibration free, well-balanced, quick and a miser on fuel. Ran that 460 for years. It was the main horse in 60's & early 70's. It did everything well. I've run the haybine with half dozen tractors but none could make an effortless square corner all day long like the old 460. Had it 31 years before torque started to slip a bit. Used it hard-but didn't abuse it. Will buy another 460 someday. By the way, have had or still have a dozen reds and six others. Favorite now - a 16 speed 826.

I don't know if anybody could actually answer that question accurately and honestly. I mean, how many people have actually had the opertunity to be around and operate every model. Also, just look at how many answers favor the tractor they grew up on. For me, I grew up on an H (sales of this tractor was greater than any other model), not nescesarily my favorite. I have driven so many tractors over the years that it has kind of come down to this. It depends on what I am doing. I base my favoritism on what I am doing with the tractor. For parades- F-20, for raking hay- the H, and so on and so on.

The 886 I ran growing up. German diesel, shifted easy (compared to other 4+2s) AC in the summer, heat in the winter. Probably spent more hours in that thing then any other tractor, car, or truck since. Seemed almost nimble compared to the bigger tractors and even the 656s. Last tractor my dad ever bought, finally sold a couple years ago with over 25,000 hours (maybe even 30K) and two overhauls. Got a shop refurbishing to help with the sales price and it still looked and ran well.

Oh, that's an easy one!!

Has to be the 560D. (Well, if they would have been able to keep a head from warping every year. LOL!)

I dunno, they are all great tractors; and it doesn't matter if they were red or green.

I never said in the other thread my fovorite, just told of the ones I own and have had. My favorite one is the one I am driving. Can be on my 706 and tell myself this is my favorite till I get on my 856. I do want to kick myself in the butt sometimes for selling my SMD & B450 years ago. I still would like to buy a 1066 or 966. All tractors, any brand , can be good if taken care of and maintained and not abused, fix minor problems before the get to be major and you can make junk out of any tractor. Every tractor has different faults to different people, it what you use them for. I probley used my 560 for something totaly different than Hugh McKay did his. My 806's pretty well stay in the same gear all day so I don't need shuttle or power shift. It what you use the for. Some of the things people use them for, the tractor was not design for. Only my opion

"H" The second tractor I bought when I got started collecting things, still have it and'll never sell it. The 560/w gas engine from 806 when I can afford to start it. My first tractor was a WD Allis,I sold it. I like my 2N ford too but it ain't an IH. I have a homemade sprayer tractor made from an IHC pickup,it has a bd220 engine and is darn near the same engine as a 460 farmall tractor engine. It does'nt have a number on it yet,I thought about calling it a "PU120 farmall" with the 4x4 option. PickUp and the 120 is what the truck series was. My fav IH of all time was the hydro 656 diesel loader tractor. But I didn't own that one.

I would have to say my favorite IH of all time is the 1468. No tractor IH made looks tougher than that monster. That was the first IH tractor my dad purchased in the late 80's. Boy could it talk. I remember when I went with him to pull a Komatsu dozer out of a tank that had filled with water. One track had busted on the dozer. A little black smoke, low gear and ole "grandma" as my dad called her pulled it right out. Although I have a Super M and an A, this has to be my favorite tractor. I still know where it is and after I graduate college intend to get it back in the family.

I, unlike so many other friends of mine, was deprived a farming background as a kid, so the bond to these machines is a little different for me. But i'd have to say that the "H"'s are my favorites. I spent alot of time working on my '40 H, and there is almost a personal bond with it. I feel like i've somehow failed it if I flood it out trying to start it on a cold day (another thing I learned NOT to do.) My H seems to want to run, but kind of likes to be finessed into starting. It's still on 6V, and doesn't like to be cranked hard. It just won't start that way. It likes to be bumped over, one rev at a time, the way a hand crank would start her. Starts every time that way. Just got to remember patience. Learned alot of things from that tractor....

The three I have. The '43H that I learned to drive on and was the only new tractor my dad ever had. The '49M that I spent countless hours running with tillage equipment, corn picker, etc. The '52SM that we got when I was a high school freshman that is the best at pushing snow and has power steering. Those three are like part of the family. I suppose the M is the one that I'd most hate to lose; it has more "personality!"

I would say my favorite is a toss up between my 460G and the H of my dad's that I grew up/ learned on. My dad worked for an IH dealer for 30 years so we always had plenty of different tractors to "play" with.

On the property, we have a Farmall 350, MF35 and AC185 (all diesels, only the AC has power steering). The 350 is my favorite to use. Steady, smooth, comfortable to operate. The MF35 is a bit more nimble than the 350, but the 35's steering wheel is always twitching in your hands when working fields. The AC185 is a big clumsy beast and hard to shift (what genuius put 1st and reverse on opposite corners of the shift pattern???).
