I tell you. I have tried to unseat my H for snow plowing duties. I have used a blower on my mower. A loader on my 400 and today tried a back blade on my 400. Nothing even holds a candle to this old girl. Does the job in half the time of the others. She has a job for life!! Mine that is. SHe will still be running strong I am sure of that.

i got me my SuperC, i guess fuel economy is pretty good on it, and I got a real nice front plow (not belly), so i can steer with my brakes in the big stuff. Got some nice tires, and i can move some hefty snow with the little red hunk of iron. Good for clearing roads off completely, much better than the buckets I've seen.

Super M with 8' wide 40" tall blade on the front of the loader. Right now it's on my M, and it does a good job, but not as good as the Super. That H looks like a winner!

Kelly, What is it about the H that makes it faster and better than the 400? I would think the live hydraulics and the power steering on the 400 would make it run rings around the H, no offense. Is it simply that huge bucket on H? Ross

Turning Radius on the H. Smaller size and the bucket. Fuel economy. That 400 can burn 4 gal of gas easy on my place the H takes just a little over a gal.
trip bucket actually works better for snow. Dumps fast and you can sit the bucket on top of the snow pile. trip it and raise the buckey and it sits the snow on top of the pile as you lift. Pretty neat. Live hydro on a H would be cool but not needed. The full hydralic bucket on my 400. You have to adjust it just right every time you start a push.
It seems its always just a little up or a little down. Tipped up to high and it rides the snow down and it digs into the drive to much. With the H its drop the bucket and go man go!!! Its set just right every time.

Kelly, are you running that loader with the original belly pump? If so, what PSI does it go up to? I've heard some go higher than the 800 my lift-all goes to. What year is your H and what kind of loader is that? As I said in my earlier post, I'm using a blade but looking forward to the versatility of a loader with a snow bucket.

Mine is 800 psi. My H is a 44. I cant remember the model loader it is. I have seen quite a few for sale though. Around $250 to $450.
I may buy another one if I see one when I have money in hand. Mine has a few welds. Great for snow but it looks like a previous owner used her hard on stuff it was not intended to lift.

This isn't really a comparison - I've only ever had one snow machine and that's a '47 H. So far, I'm with you, it does a great job for the money. I looked at tractors for a couple of years. Most were repaint rebuilds going for above $2000. This H was $1200 with everything working, good rubber, new alt and a recent ring job. This may be a lot for the midwest but here in CT that was one of better prices for anything that size. Another $50 got me a frame and a decent snow blade. My driveway has a grade so it helped that it was a little heavier than most of the other tractors available. My 2c.

We have a Case 1845C skid steer that has worked awesome, but my friend and a hired hand on our farm bought a truck with a snowplow and happily does my driveway. That is a lot quicker than trying to drive the slow skidsteer to 4 different farms. Otherwise, we used to use a blade on the back of the 856. Of course, it is pretty fun now to just use a 2+2 and make your own path through the snow. There are times the 2+2 will drive down the field road and the snow left in the middle won't allow our F250 farm truck to follow. Good times. Heated cab, too.

We use the Gehl skid loader mostly for snow, especially in the driveway. Works great and fast. Have a 8.5' blade on the front of a 756 and a fast hitch blade on the back. This works great when there is a lot of snow, or you need to make a path in a water way. Oh yeah, has a heat houser on it to make it a little warmer. This way the blade is on the front of it to work on waterways at the beginning of spring. Skid loader is the one of choice though.

The best thing we have for deep snow is the loader on our 826 but I prefer a 3pt blade for lighter snow. The 826 has 18.4x34" Firestone radials on the back of it with fluid and a set of wheel weights but I also have an IH weight bracket fitted with 3pt brackets so I can add another 1,000 lbs to the back of it when needed. I am wanting to add a set of adjustable wings to the loader bucket so it will cut a wider swath than just 6'. I would really like to have a pickup mounted snow plow and a nice 9' 3pt snow blower for the big drifts. We have five driveways of our own spread out over five miles that we have to keep cleaned out and there is nothing worse than driving a 2wd tractor on icy roads, especially when they don't have a cab. We have used our skid steers before and they work good but are really cold without any type of enclosure.

Kelly: Skid steer loaders will run circles around most farm tractors, even the largest of them. The best one I ever had however was a John Deere 540A forestry skidder, equiped with 8 speed power shift and an 11' blade, 3' high. That machine would take 6' snow drifts and pack the pile so hard it would climb a pile like you have and push the excess over the top.

In my life time on the farm I plowed snow with several machines and will rate them best to poorest Deere 540A in 1st. Case 1737 Uniloader in 2nd, Farmall 130 in 3rd, Farmall 656 with 2000 loader in 4th, Farmall 560 with same loader in 5th, Farmall 300 with blade in 6th, and Farmall H with loader in 7th. I rate them this way as the Deere is in a league by itself. The skid loader was much the same, I have seen one of these chalange a Cat 950 in a shopping mall parking lot. They devided the lot in half. The skid loader was back on it's trailer when the Cat finished. I placed the 130 in 3rd not because it was the best 2 wheel drive tractor, but rather for the investment and it's size it makes the rest look bad. My 656 was only ahead of the 560 because it had a cab.

Plain and simple language, 2 wheel drive farm tractor is the poorest vehicle ever put under a loader. the 4x4 farm tractor is next to it.

Larry, Thats a nice 806, but isn't it an overkill? I could clear that much snow off the driveway with a feather duster.

That is from when I just put it on getting ready for snow. I have been known to wait till I had to dig the blade out of a snow bank & try to get it mounted When they called for the first real snow I put it on hopeing to scare it away. Worked good till a week ago Now were getting it
