High today was -16 degrees F. Tonight it is supposed to get down to -32 F. And this is usually the warmest part of the state - northern part of the state is bracing for -40 F tonight!

I can't wait to see the electric bill next month - probably need to add to my loan...

Here in Central Alabama it got to 20 both yesterday morning and today. Was in mid 40's yesterday pm and heading for the mid 50's today. Skys are clear, valve on stock tank froze and cracked. H's battery will need a shot of juice before it will crank.

Up here in Northern Ontario it is -21C or -8F, feels alot colder with the wind. Our coldest day so far was -50F. We have been having about 2 weeks of frigid weather around -40C. Have not had to take the Cub out much in those temps. Right now we are getting about 10" of the white powder.

Its been about 5 degrees at night and 10 or 15 during the day for a few weeks now, in CT. Whenever I feel cold, I call my brother darrel and my other brother darrel in vermont so I feel better. Last week I called to northern VT and he said it was 35 below on his hill, and in the center of the village, down in the valley, it was 40 below. He came home at noon to feed the stove and it was a high of 15 below. (F) without wind. At the top of mount washington, the highest peak in new england, it was 54 below, with a wind chill of 99 below. Looking forward to spring.

Forgot to put in that we have about 8 to 10 inches of new snow as well. Piled about 4 feet high down the middle of all the streets with little places plowed open to turn left! Dang East wind during the last storm and things aren't protected well from the East...

8 and dropping to -5F. Windchills to -20. Tomorrow through Friday lows to -10 and windchills -20 to -25. Friday's high up to 10. I just want snow. Got a few inches yesterday. I was going to plow today. Recently purchased 340 and thought I should have another key made and have both on a keychain...well...what did I do with the key?

Here in Utah we just had our first day of temps above freezing since Jan 2. That's not been so bad, what's worse is the temperature inversion we've had all that time. The mountains trap cold area in the valley, and all the smoke and smog builds up until it gets so bad that the authorities tell people not to exercise outside. It's like living in a dirty fogbank for three weeks. Yick.

We finally got a small snow storm this weekend that blew the gunk out of the valley.

I think it hit 20F today, its like a heat wave. Over the past few weeks it was ranging between -22 at night to about 5F during the day. I was impressed, my 6-volt H actually started on two cranks at -22F

Hello!

I live and farm near Glaslyn, Saskatchewan, Canada. The current temperature here now is -42F and the forecast low for tonight is -54F and it will have now problem getting there. That is without any windchill effect added in.

It is very cold, even for western Canada!

My cows are miserable.

Michael: I take note you said your cows are miserable. You don't normally get it that cold do you. I know you have cold weather but this is a bit much. Hardest thing I've ever seen on cows is rapid change in temps. But this one has to be hard on them even if they were used to it. You take good care of yourself and those cows. It's a balmy -20C here in SW Ontario. Man I feel for you.

I am originally from Nova Scotia and the hardest item we had there on cattle was temperature change. We had a warm stancion barn full of holsteins, temps had been holding 0 to -30F. I remember one morning it was -30F at 6am and by 6pm it was + 45F. That was a miserable barn full of cows as well. The worst part was you couldn't turn them out as the yard outside was a sheet of ice.

You are right. An up and down swing in temperatures is particularily hard on the weaned calves. Warm windy days interspersed with some sudden sharp drops in temperature are difficult for them. Pneumonia, shipping fever, IBR become problems and you have to watch them close. The herd cows just slow down, frost up, and wait it out in a bluff of trees. I have never seen a cow freeze to death in the calm cold. A storm is a different matter though...

Yes -48c (like it was this morning) is unusual even for here. We normally get 3 or 4 spells of -30c to -40c, and then warm spells in between. Can't see it lasting too much longer.

Michael

Those temps are in Farenhight.

The funny thing is that the two scales cross over at -40. Centigrade and Farenhight are the same at -40. We have the metric system here, but my old thermometer on the side of the house has both scales.

Had 10-12" snow this past weekend.
