B414 Differential Lock Problem

Greetings,
My 1969 B414 Diesel tractor runs fine except for the differential, which doesn't lock together both wheels when I step on the differential lock pedal. I checked my neighbor's tractor (same model), and the differential lock pedal free-play seems the same. Any help regarding this problem would be appreciated.
P.S. The tractor was purchased with this condition.
Thanks,
Fabien

Fabien, if you can't see any obvious problems on the outside the likely culprit is the collar that locks the 2 bull-pinion shafts together ( the 2 shafts the brakes run on). It's a fairly big job to get to them, you have to pull the axles, PTO shaft, bull gears,bull-pinion carriers, differential, and split the differential to get the collar out and replace it. Sorry for the bad news. :( Befor you do all that try to get the shaft the pedal pushes to go further into the case.

Fabien, my manual says that there is a cam plate that may be worn badly and this prevents the diferential from locking. The suggestion is replacement of this plate, I don't know if there is any adjustment or other factors, hopefully someone else will respond with some ideas....Mike in Exeter Ontario
