I bought my F-12 at a farm auction. Was told the SN was 38303 (1935?). I can't find the SN on my tractor. I've looked up a few pictures of F-12s. Some are red and some are gray. The one I bought is red (repaint). What year are the gray ones and what year are the red ones?
Thanks
Jason

You should be able to find the serial # on either of the places mennitioned, IF it has the original block. If the block has been replaced, it probably does not have the number stamped into it. I believe that the change over to red oficially took place sometime in 1936, but I've also read that IH was painting some of its tractors red before this. My #1 son's '36 F-12 was definately red from the factory-too much red paint on parts hidden from the son not to be. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

jason, it's been too long sice i have looked at an an f12 and my forgetter works better all the time. i think the serial number is near the fuel pump. look around on the motor for a flat spot with a number stamped in. i assume the serial number tag on the rear hood support is missing? they went to red in nov of 36

On my f12 the serial# is on a plate under the gas tank facing the drivers seat.
