I just found a tractor in the bushes beside a house and it is a IH with 3-point,didn't look if it has a pto, has a 2000 loader on it and looks factory. The tractor looks originally red and was painted orange(illinois state equipment color) and painted over the orange again with red. He says it is hung in gear. The front axle is the swept back type like on 424. It has a gas motor and he says it has antifreeze. His son has started to remove some tin to get at the tranny. The grill is missing also. Any idea what this rascal is?? Where would I look for a serial number. I think it could be bought for under $400. Thanks Kent

I stopped by today and it is a 2544. I could see the id plate behind the loader mount. It has a shuttle shift is what the guy claimed. He said it wouldnt come out of gear.He had started to try and take the top off the tranny but said the tractor had to be split is why he stopped working on it. He said when he pushed in the clutch it wouldn't roll and moved it with a pick up to where it is now @ 50ft from where it wouldn't come out of gear originally. He had started taking some parts off and I could see a block with clevis type linkage off that looked like it was on top of tranny under the steering wheel. It was last running in spring '03. It does have a pto. Any ideas or suggestions. Thanks Kent

Kent: More than likely the tractor is Utility 460, 606, 504 or 656. Has it 4 or 6 cylinders? Is the gear shift lever on top of transmission or on side on hood by steering wheel? Serial plate should be on left side of clutch housing.

Hugh, It was getting dark 25 degrees and freezing rain here in Southern Illinois, so I didn't spend much time on it. I will look more tomorrow and post my findings. Thanks Kent

Could be an IH2444 ? The model/SN plate is on the right side of the clutch housing.
