Most likely the tranny got caught in two gears at once. It's a common problem with these tractors when the bottom end of the shift lever gets worn.

To correct, first remove the shift lever (knock out the pivot pin in the tranny cover at the base of the shift lever, then lift lever out). Now look inside at the slots on the 3 shifter rails. For the tranny to be in neutral the slots in all 3 rails must be centered in the opening. If not, take a LARGE screwdriver or similar prying tool and move the rails to the center as needed. (You may need to jack up one rear wheel to release the load on the gears in order for the rails to move.) Finally replace the shift lever and retaining pin.

A permanent fix involves building up the worn "button" on the bottom of the shift lever.

Good luck!

third party image

If you have a picture on Tractor Photos ( or any where else on the web, except that some of the free or low cost photo posting services, maybe Epsom for instance won't let you) it's easy to get them on a post. Just go to the picture and right click on it. On the pop-up menu that comes up click on "Properties." Then select the Address(url), in this case

Link

by dragging the curser over exactly those words.
Then right click on what you've highlighted and click on "Copy."
Now come back to Post a Message and write your message. Then move the curser to the box by "Optional Image URL," right click, and click on "Paste."
Your photo will now show up when you post.

Are going to restore the W-450? If so I would like to share a couple of pictures of Dads W-450 and W-400 that we just got done with. I could try to send them over this but, never done that before. These tractors are very neat when they are restored. Not many of them around at the shows.

Is the transmission in neutral? If the trans is in any forward gear and the TA is forward It won't roll backwards. The planateries in the TA do not like turning backwards with reverse torque. Try pulling the TA back and see if it will roll back off your trailer.

Is the temperature below freezing there? If so I would assume there is water in the transmission/rearend sticking the gears.
