I just ran across what appears to be a Super A in that it has touch control. The engine number is 314531 but the serial number on the tag is FAA 18556. I also found another number that I believe ( its been a little while )was located up by the shifter 6832DA. Can anyone make sense of this? If its a SA I plan to make an offer. I'm wondering if the seat was replaced at some time which might explain the serial number? Thanks

Bud gave you most of the info. The 6832DA is a casting part number. Most all the parts of any significance have a part number either stamped or cast into them.

You have half of an A and half of a Super A. You got all the "important parts" for touch control except the fenders unless they remembered to switch those too: The A has thin sheet metal fenders that won't support the rear rockshaft arm for the Super A.

I re-read your post from above: Super A will have conical head bolts and studs on the back for the drawbar, heavier fenders, etc. You may have had someone replace the seat bracket, they will rust out. Another way is look for casting codes. These will be found on block, trans. case and other major cast components. They are cast as MM/DD/Y where the year is represented usually as a letter:

Example: Jan. 25, 1948

1 25 R

Year codes:
39: I
40: J
41: K
42: L
43: M
44: N
45: O
46: P
47: Q
48: R
49: S
50: T
51: U or W
52: X
53: Y
54: Z
