I hate to sound like a penny pincher but Im hesitant to sink $500 more or less into overhaul kit for the 221 in my F 460. What would a combine (303,403,503,615,715) engine be worth from salvage yard ? I know Id be gambling on getting a good one. My old 221 tractor engine had a lot of blow by and poor oil pressure so anythig better than that will be improvment.

If you rebuild it, you know what you've got. Just done my 460. Made nice sleeve puller and jig to press sleeves in. Had head redone. Everthing went well. Where are you located? Drop me an E-mail.

You're rolling dice in a dark alley. By the time you jerk out a combine engine, you can have your 460's 221 out and on its way to being put back together. Your 460 engine, for the most part, is a known entity--you have a pretty good feel for what's wrong with it versus an absolute unknown going after a combine engine. Chances are the combine engines are in worse shape than your 460's as combines operate in the most hideous of environments--grain dust!
