I bought a '48 MD a while back and it's been a work in progress. We had a mild day today, so I thought I'd try starting her. Started fine on gas warmed up a few minutes and swithched over. Alot of white smoke from the exhaust. Bled the injectors and still running rough and white smoke. Has new filters cleaned screen new fuel cleaned tank. I've let it run about a half hour now and not much change. Any suggestions? Oh, it also has a new head gasket. Thanks Geoff

Did you try to put the tractor under a load and warm it up to see if it cleans up, if so the ijector might not atamizing or the injector pump might need rebuilt. Check that their is nothing in the air passage.

Geoff, From your description it sounds like it only puts out white smoke in diesel mode. I don't know what you have changed with new head gasket and such. One problem my MD had was the timing of the injector pump that made it smoke a lot. Timing is a trial and error method. You have to stop the engine, move the injector pump timing one direction and then start and see if any improvement. If worse, go the other way. Keep doing until it runs bad and then set back to the best setting. Roger
