We just put a new clutch in our 450 Ih. We also had the fly wheel turned. The torque didn't look hurt, so we put the tractor back togeather and somthing still sliped. We broke the tractor again and redone the clutch and replaced the torque clutch, Put it back togeather and still the same since. We dont want to tear it apart again until we are sure what the problem is. We havent done any thing to the tractor since. The only thing I can think of is that we will have to replace the whole torque. Thanks in Advance Trapper Jr.

The flywheel is stepped. If you remove metal from the recessed clutch face, you also have to remove the same amount from the surface where the pressure plate attaches. At this point you need to measure the distance between both surfaces and see if it meets specifications. Unfortunately, I do not know what that number is.

I resurfaced a SMTA clutch in my lathe a few years ago. It took several cuts to get through (below) the hardened spots. I probably removed .040"-.060" on both surfaces.

Is it slipping on both high side and low side on the TA? Generally if it slipps on the low side it is the ramp and rollers in the ta, on the high side or both it is the ta clutch. How was the main pressure plate. If you turned the flywheel perhaps it is not set correctly to put enough pressure on the clutch plate. Have you gone through the adjustments for ta and clutch? That is necessary to get it all to work right. Have not heard anyone talk about failure of the ta clutch pressure plate but suppose that is a posibility. Make sure linkages are adjusted correctly before tearing it apart again. Other thing that I even hate to mentiobn, you din't forget to take the compression bolts out of the main pressure plate when you put it together? Seems like you also use similar ones in ta pressure plate.
