I have the option of buying a 1968 IH 2444 w/2050 loader OR a 1980 Case 380 CK with loader. The IH is more expensive but it has several buckets and attachments. The IH is gas and the Case is Diesel. They are reletively the same size (Case is slightly more powerful). Does anyone have an opinion about the pluses or minuses with these two tractors? I will use this primarily for small construction and clearing arround my house as well as some mowing and snow removel. They both have power steering, live 540 PTO and 3 PT. Any help would be appreciated.

Nick,
I have a IH 2444 with 2050 loader. I really like it, and it is a tough little beast, however with that said the 2050 loader is a bit much for an industrial 444 tractor. I have a nice 3 point steel counterweight ( 1 Ton) and the rears loaded, it still is a bit light in the rear with a full bucket of gravel on it. I would go with the Case for your use as I believe it is better designed for loader/backhoe work. The Case should also be easier to get parts for, some parts for the 2444/444 are getting more difficult to find, as this series of tractor was only made for about 5 years.

Good luck :)

Nick I find that the diesels are superior to gas tractors for my application. I don't need to concern myself with distributors, coils plugs wires etc. Diesels have their own set of circumstances..injectors pumps etc but seems to me overall there is less maintenance on a diesel and more economical to operate. I don't want to start a war, I have an H that is about as perfect a running tractor as can be but I like the diesel over it. I have six tractors, two are diesels and those two do 90% of the work around the farm. Thats my opinion and based on the scarcity of parts as one person has commented , you may be better off with the diesel tractor...Mike in Exeter Ontario

I would check with your local IH dealer. We sold our IH 3414 backhoe due to the fact that we no longer could get certain parts, they stopped makeing them. But with the case you should still be able to get most parts. Just something to consider. I would say buy the Case, we had that 3414 and the new case would run circles around that old 3414.
