Here's the link to what looks to me like an early A.

To Guy Fay- This tractor (FRA128) is just like any other A with the exception of the Hydraulic pump openning on the side of the block and two things welded on the right axle housing that are so smooth they look like they were cast into it. Mr Frank Peacock, longtime zone manager for IH told me in 1967 when I was selling for IH that it was a research A that got lost in the shuffle along with many other pieces of equipment in this area in 1937. The most notable of these pieces was a one row cottonpicker mounted on a B Farmall(again, in 1937). The picker drum was mounted in front of the driver and the basket was above his head. This tractor and picker was traded in to the IH dealer in Calhoun City, Mississippi in 1967 after being parked in the farmer;s barn for 30 years. It caused quite a stir at the time, but, I don't know where it went.

Would anyone happen to know the serial number of thisexperimental A? I have owned one for the past forty years with serial number FRA128. I bought it to use, not as a collector's item and have used it for that many years. Still a good tractor. I would say it has the C engine in it rather than the A since it has the hydraulic pump openning which is blocked off.

FRA-128 would be a Frameall, which is actually more or less a Super A prototype. There's quite a bit of information available on these tractors, and at least one other exists- send me an e-mail, or check out my Experimental and Prototypes book if you can find it.
