Hydraulics for a Super C

Can someone tell me if the hydraulics for a 1953 Super C are open are closed? If you can answer that please tell me the differance.

Most older tractor hyd. systems are "open" this means there has to always be flow through whatever valve you might be using to reservoir. JD 3010,4010 etc. are "closed" If there is no flow or a closed center valve is used what can't be handled by the relief valve could cause pump failure.

They are closed. There is not a vent cap/hole anywhere on the unit. I proved this with my '50 C when I went to change hydraulic fluid the first time. I loosened and then removed the drain plug. Got a good oil bath. I just couldn't get that plug put back in there. What I would call an open system is one that would have a vent cap that would allow for the passage of air as the hydraulic oil heats up and cools down.
