Guy, I am restoring a SW6TAD, I know by the chassis serial plate it was the 233 SW6 made. I run into the problem when I try to research the engine serial #. The cast code dates its manufacturing at 12-23-53(engine). I know that there was no attempt to match the numbers but the engine serial number is not even in the sequence. That # is 8625. After pressure washing and blowing off old paint I found the original color to be yellow with a white primer. I then checked against the Trac-Tractors and still can't find an origin for the #. The engine is properly stamped with the D-264 so that ruled out other possibilities. Have you in your research found any info to help clear up this mystery. Thanks ED

I am positive, Steve, The part # was cast into the block, not stamped.

D-264 engines were serial numbered sequentially, wether they were used in Farmalls, standard tractors, crawlers, power units, skid units, etc, as someone else mentioned. No relationship whatsoever with the tractor production numbers.

Engine numbers for the 264 started with the first Supers like a SW6 so your number could be correct.

Dave, That is true but the #'s started with 10001. I always thought the engine fell at least in the same sequence of #'s. Hows the weather up there. Ed D. in VA

May be wrong on this,I think D264 numbers started
at start of 264 engine production and carried on
whether engine was used in row crop or W series.
Someone on here will probably let us know.Snowing
