I am rebuilding the engine on a Farmall H and found that the hardened washers on the rod bearings were cracked and some of them broke. Does anyone know where I can get these washers or if it is OK to substitute hardened lock washers for the flat washers. The locking washers that you bend over are all OK.

I would not use a split lock. Look to automotive machine shops or automotive speed shops or anywhere you can get automotive engine grade hardware. The washers likely have a smaller OD and a more closely sized ID to match the bolt size. They may even be ground flat and parallel as opposed to just stamped washers. They may be similar to what are referred to as automotive AN washers, but I may be mistaken. I am talking generally as I don't have direct experience with these washers as applied to the H.

Check with an industrial hardware supply that sells Grade 8 bolts, and get some Grade 8 washers in the appropriate size.

Roger, I would talk with a rebuild shop for engines and see what they do for all there motors, its probably a simple fix. ED
