Some pics of 20's have the cranks on the front rod that starts the engine,is there a way to leave on when you drive or are you supposed to put it in the tool box under the gas tank?

OUR F20 HAS BEEN IN THE FAMILY FOR OVER 50 YEARS
THOUGH WE FARM WITH LATE MODEL TRACTORS THERE IS STILL AN EXTRA FARMALL CRANK HANGING ON BOTH
GAS BARRELS AND ONE MORE IN THE BARN IT LOOKS TO
ME LIKE GRAMPS MUST HAVE LOST ONE ONCE AND AWHILE.

I agree with what is said. I remove mine and slide the bigger around end that fits on the shaft down inbetween gas tank support and tool box. It basically can't get out of there and will just lie there on the frame. The only bad thing is over time, it will wear into the tool box. I forgot and left one on an H one time, and after driving around I noticed that it fell off and I never did find it.

as was said, u can leave it on the crank, but be forewarned, if you do, ou can be assured someday of bending it on somthing. Turning too close to something, and not thinking about the crank being there. I farm with my 30, and know how many fence posts I have missed by using it rather than my CC Case which I have to rethink my distances when turning right near a tree or fence post

In reply, Yes there is away to keep the crank one the front end there is a hole in the crank and in the rod that sticks out of the front end when lined up correctly you can put a cotter pin in there, i did it to my '38 F-20, hope the info helps, The F-20 Man

Putting the cotter pin in it will keep it from coming off if it kicks back. They can hurt you if the fly off and hit you.

Are you guys sure it's a cotter pin that's supposed to hold the crank on? Every one I've seen has used a large bent nail through the hole...same type of nail that is used to keep the wheels from coming off most older horsedrawn equipment I've seen...thought this was factory? ;)
