Have a Farmall 100. Heard that this ring gear needs to be heated to be replaced. Anybody know what that temperature would be?

Joe: You know of course those can just be turned and use the good side if that has not already been done.

I just put two on recently. If you are not going to flip the one over and re-use it, cut it in two with an abrasive disc. Then, while your wife is away, clean the new one really good, (this is so it doesn't smell when you put it in the oven). I left mine in for about 20 minutes at 450 and it slipped over the flywheel easily. Let cool and you are ready to go. Hope this helps.

49cubber is right about the 500*, that's what the manual says. I remmember taking flywheel and ring gear to the welding shop next door many times to get it done with a torch. That was by a pro who had done it often; the trick is that if you get it too hot the teeth lose their hardness and won't last.

The trick with the oven (49 Cubber) usually works. If it doesn't, put the flywheel in the freezer overnight. Then heat up yhe gear and put it togather. Good luck

if you have a oxy/acety torch (or oxy/propane)you can start heating the ring gear real slow just go around and around it. DO NOT get it red just nice and warm. you can practice by taking the one off your flywheel first. have done several this way and it is very easy. not real sure if a regular propane torch(benzamatic ?) would be enough heat.
