I was looking at the specifications for a 5288 and a 5488 and I cant find out what type of transmission it has in it. And also is see the 3488 has the D-466 and I was woundering if it had the oilers at the bottom of the sleves.
Just like the difference between the D-966 and DT-1066.

If the engine just says D then it does not have the cooling jets, samll oil pump, no hardend seats for the intake valves, the fuel injection pump only had a 9mm head. The DT has cooling jets, big oil pump, different pistions, hardend seats for the intake valves, 10mm head in the fuel injection pump.. This is only on the 300 & 400 series engines. 312, 360, 414, 436, 466. If it is A 415, 437, 467 it is a B series engine and the cam and rockers & rocker blocks on are different along with the breather going from the side to the top.

The 3488 is a hydro transmisson with a 466 non turbo motor running about 112 hp. The 52 & 54's both have DT466,turbo's, with the 5288 running about 162 hp and the 5488 187 hp. The 52 & 5488 have two oilers under each piston but I don't know if the 3488 does.

The 3x88 series has basiclly the same rear end as the 1x86 series. The 5x88 has a whole different animal. They are dang near bullet proof. Just make sure if you buy one (5088,5288,5488) it has had the update kit put in. The first ones had faulty splines but was fixed from the factory in the second year of production. They made update kits for the first year ones. Dad has been an IH machanic for 30 years and he has never seen one of the bigs come apart except for the update work.

Check out>Link

5488 has 3 ranges with 6 gears in each range for 18 forward speeds and 6 in reverse. Synchronized for shift on the go between 2 and 3 and 4 and 5. 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6 are powershift (TA) no clutch. Have to stop to switch range High, Medium, and Low.

Hope this helps!
