Just wondering what kind of truck you haul with.
My dads got a 2001 chevy 1500 Z71, And it pulls a 24 foot 3 axle trailer.it pulls my m and plow nice, makes the truck squat a bit,but it pulls fine.If we haul more than one tractor We get a Ford 350 to pull it(dad works for a farm automation company with service trucks) The ford pulls like there is nothing behind it at all. Some guys i now pull with dodges and the new ford diesel, they like em but the new ford rattles when it starts up. Any of you have this problem? I still choose GMC/CHEV as my favorite trucks.

I have wanted to get a big old truck and fix it up to pull my tractors with but the insurance is the problem. I pull with an F-350 with 460 now. It does okay but with 2 tractors and the trailer and truck I gross around 20,000lbs. Get about 5 miles to the gallon. I hope to get something else soon but don't know what at this point. What do others do for insurance on biger trucks?

I read most of this. If you have to buy a Duramax, Powerstrock or Dodge Cummins. You would be better off with a light Freightliner or Navistar duals, 20" tires and air brakes. It will be more economical transportation. The one I liked though was the B series Mack. If your going to pull old tractors around the country, be authentic, fix up an old truck as well.

I have a 16' tandem axle flatbed (7500#) with brakes. It'll hold about as much as I can get on there. I pull it with a 2003 Chevy Duramax 2500HD crewcab and Allison transmission. If the load's real heavy, I'll put the equalizer bars on to help a little. I use a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller.

I've never had any problems pulling that rig, even going up the steepest mountain around here in the summer. Runs even better when it's cold outside. Sure beats the heck out of my 97 Dodge 3/4 ton with a 360ci gasser.

Looks about like a load of tractors that I saw at the Dixon County, NE county fair last summer. A group of guys from around Fremont, NE. Seems like they had 3 1466's and I don't remember what the fourth on was. Just out for a day of pulling.

Ford Ranger FX2

4 wd
Torsen limited slip 8.8 rear end
207 HP 6cyl
5sp automatic

Pulls my 2N Ford OK on a two axle trailer that I borrow, however max towing (gross) is 5000 lbs. My 300 Farmall supossedly comes in at 4800 and then you add some 400lbs for the three point hitch and then I have a bit too much of a load.

I would guess It would pull it fine. A 2002 Ranger is a better towing truck than a 74 F-250. At least in the arena of brakes and power. Sure, the drive train would wear out faster if this was done regularlly.

Any way this will open up the chances of a F-350 as a replacement truck in the future.

Or, more exciting would be a refurbished 2-1/2 ton ex-U.S. military truck (Duce and a half) or maybe even a 5 ton truck. Gotta love those 5 tonners. Biggest things on the road.

'79 Kenworth K100 with 27' beavertail rack. Not as stylish or comfortable as a pickup and gooseneck, but will haul my Super H and Super M together without breaking a sweat!

I pull my IH's around with a 1999 Ford 3/4 Super Duty. It has just the 5.4 but with a five speed and 4.10's it handles my 25ft gooseneck fine. This summer or late fall I think I will trade up to the Powerstroke or Duramax-the diesel pulls so much better and a lot less fuel.

I haul two Super M's weighing 7000 pounds a piece all summer long and throw the 1206 on once in a while-that only weighs 10500. Glad I got a gooseneck trailer though-my friend has a hard time with 1 Super M on a bumper hitch trailer.

The 24 foot trailer we use is bumper hitch. The ball was on the bumper and after pullin tractors a couple of times the bumper got bent so dad got a reese hitch put on the chev. I would go with the duramax.

I have hauled anything from logs trucks and tractors with my truck. I have a 1995 F-250 HD 4x4 with a 351 auto. and pull a 25 foot morts 5th wheel trailer. The smallest thing I have hauled with it is a Farmall MD that weighed about 4000 and the largest a 1066 that weighed about 15,500. Havent had any problems with it except when I was on the way home with some cattle from kentuckey the transfer case blew apart on me left a nice fire trail behind the trailer. But I wish it was a 5 speed.

I pull my tractors with my old 1986 Chevy 1/2 ton that I just put a 400 small block in. It pulls great but since it's just a half ton I just pull one tractor at a time. Don't want to squash it to bad and I like to be able to stop it. I'm funny like that.I have family members that have a new Dodge, Chevy Duramax and a F 550. All in diesel and they all pull great. The reason I still use my old truck is it has been paid for since 1989. You can buy a lot of tractors and parts for the price of a payment on any of the 3 new trucks my inlaws drive.

Use to pull my M with a 98 Z71,pulled it fine as long as that was all I hauled, which more than likely it wasnt, mainly wife and kids or camping supplies for thje show.I know, not that much weight but it made a little difference.I got knocked alot for pulling it with a Z71,but hey,I never had ANY problems. Now I pull with a F-350 Powerstroke, but the first thing I did when I looked att he truck was to ask the head mechanic at the dealer ship who built the engine. When he said International, thats when I started dealing!I am very happy with it so far,but if a Chevy like it had been available with pretty much the same package for the price I got my 350 for,I would have probably bought it instead.

I just got my Super AV in November and do not have a trailer yet but will eventually be pulling it with my '96 Dodge 2500 Cummins Diesel auto. Probably looking into a 15-20' trailer with a 2 5/16 ball hitch somewhere around 7500 GVW. I think the Dodge should have no problem :) .
