I'm new at tractor restorin i've done a wc allis chalmer, an 8n ford and a john derre b but none have live pto I lookin at a farmall m around 1941 when did ih come out with live pto ? thanks tim

It would be with the 1954 SMTA. The SMTA was only built in 1954. In 1955 IH switched to the number series and the SMTA was replaced with the 400.

The live pto started on the 300s and Super MTAs. Some regular Ms, have an aftermarket hand clutch that will give you a semi-live pto. All it did was stop the forward movement of the tractor with out stopping the pto. Downside was you still had to step on the clutch to change gears.
