Have a 76 cub with a belly mower.The tractor cranks and runs great, with no smoke from the exaust stack. It does, however, smoke a little from the oil fill/dipstick tube when it is under a load.It doesn't smoke any other time, only when under a load. Is this normal, or do I have a problem? Thanks in advance, Scott.

I have a 1952 International cub loboy with a belly mower and it does the same thing when under a load (in hot summer Texas weather). It doesn't "burn" any oil because the crankcase doesn't deplete any so I don't know the answer either. Does anyone have an answer?

THANKS! I feel much better. One last question.The tractor has a Woods 60" belly mower. Is that mower too much for the Cub?

On my Lo-boy it does fine.A buddy of mine put a 60" on 54 regular cub,which he refurbished front to back,and it did so-so.He sold it a couple of years later and put,I think a 48,but could be a 42 on it and it does just fine with that on it.

Scott,

You can stop looking. The '76 never had the line. I don't know why not... maybe you can add one? There should be a 1/8" pipe plug high on the left side of the front surface of the block. That's where the earlier ones had a line running from the valve chamber to the inlet side of the air cleaner. The small vacuum provided some ventilation and created a slight negative pressure in the crankcase... kinda like the later PCV valves.

Thanks George for clearing that up I just assumed that the later model cubs still had it. I am sorry for mis leading you on that.
But I did clean mine out on my 48 and 56 cub and it took care of the smoke out of the oil fill.

You need to first check the 1/4" tubing or so that goes from the block on the carb side. to the air breather. It can some times get plugged up over the years and makes it so the crank case can not vent and it will then vent out through the oil fill. I suggest taking the line off and making sure it is not plugged. I think it is a 1/2" line wrench to take it off.
let us know

I can't seem to find a tube leading from the block to the breather.

The tube runs from the block to the air cleaner, not the breather. It comes out the front of the block and runs up and into the inlet tube for the air cleaner.

The cranckcase is vented through the oil fill cap, normally when there is smoke from the oil fill , It indicates that you have blowby ( combustion pressure leaking past the piston rings) this is then vented out of the crankcase by means of the oil fill. If it has been recently overhauled this condition is sometimes present until the new piston and rings seat in.
