I ve decided its time to look for a round baler. I am going to a large used equioment dealer that has alot of different brands, (older models). I was wondering what to look for on the IH models. were they any good? i know the old new hollands like the 848 can do green hay, can the IH's? i think a red one will look good behind my 706, just dont want to have to fix it all the time. Thanks for any info

i bale 5 to 6 thousand 1500 pound round bales every year wet and dry. i have tried many different brands but the only one that i have found that will last for the longest and cost the least amount to keep functional is the new hollands. i now have a new holland 851 auto tie that i have had for ten years and i can prove of atleast 45000 bales ran through it. replaced chains one time, and some bearings here and there in those ten years. it looks just fine behind my 1086.

I don't have an IH, but for what it's worth, my old Vemeer will shudder if you even drive by a damp or tuff field of hay. Wet hay will wrap every roller in the darn thing. The only old baler I know that will roll damp hay is the older New Holland that uses chains insead of belts. But I have to wonder, why do you want to bale wet hay?

see, i was thinkning about making baleage. What is the difference between the old belt balers and new ones? i know sileage special has chopper knives inside, but the hay doesnt need to be fine for what i want it for. How good do the old ih balers work? Thanks for all the info guys

i have a ih 241 round baler. don't even think of trying to do green hay with one- it just wraps around everything. that is if you can even get the core turning at all.

My baler guy would tell me the baler will tell you if hay is too wet. He had a Vemeer and pulled it with a Oliver 1650.
