Hello all, I just got the radiator off my H. One of the studs was already broken off at the radiator and the other is worn very thin and I dont know if I will be able to remove it w/o breaking it also. Can the "welding a nut onto broken stud" trick be used for removing these? if not any other ideas? I am hoping that the radiator shop can repair my leaks so I dont have to buy a new one. Thanks in advance, RayA in OK

Ray, I just put a new radiator in my Allis WD for $170. That would not begin to pay the repair shop bill. But what I got was an aluminum core made in China. I doubt it will last more than 10 years. I am going to save the old leaky one but I don't know what for. The old copper gets brittle with age and turns to junk too.

I tried drilling it out with a lefthand bit Unfortunately i drilled through the bottom of the radiator. I tried soldering the stud in but haven't tested it for leaks yet Be Careful if you try drilling

Ray, Hopefully the "weld a nut" trick will work. If you have to take it to a machine shop to have the stud removed, then to a radiator shop to have the leaks repaired, you could easily spend as much on it as a new one would cost. Just something to consider. Several of the radiator shops in my area won't even look at these old brass radiators. EPA and lead activists have basically shut them down from using the old fashioned methods of radiator repair. Good luck with the project.//FB
