Dear All,
I'm afraid I'm a complete novice here, but do have one redeeming quality in that I love old tractors. We've only been farming for a year on 25 acres 70km North West of Sydney. On the weekend we became the proud owners of a 414, with slasher, grader and disks. Let's just say the old girl 'needs a bit of work' but it seems that parts are not a problem. However, it has a broken manifold (ie. it's in two halves). Any suggestions on how to tackle this problem, and any history on this model and personal thoughts would be very welcome. Eventually we would like to pretty her up, but predominantly she is a working girl.

I have a gas engine B414, we can still get some parts at the local IH dealership. Also there is a link to UK red on the redpower magazine sight. And there is a discussion gruop on yahoo for the english tractors. I dont have it righ now but I could E-mail it to you. I had a charging problem on mine as well, and the voltage regulator went out on it. Hope this helps nice to see another 414 owner. Good luck

Jess,
I am in the ACT. They were made in the UK [B414] & Oz [A414] from about 1961 to 1966.
The B250, 275, 414 & 434, 444 tractors as well as the small Inter dozers had the same 144/154 engines.
Try the wreckers for any of those models.
The B250 was introduced originally as a Fergy fighter.
If you need more help, let me know. Manuel

Manuel, many thanks for this information - it is extremely helpful. Do you own one yourself? The one we've bought is in a pretty ordinary state, the bonnet is pretty rusty and needs work, there has been some disagreements in the past from auto electricians regarding the fact that the battery wont hold a charge - one said just needs a new battery, one said it was the alternator, one said it was the starter motor. Also, how do I find a tractor wreckers yard? Knowing that there are some around in Oz is great. Our local tractor repairer can get parts new no problem - except the manifold. We're thinking of having it welded, but that may not really be the answer. The models you list - would the manifold also be the same? Sorry, so many questions. Jess.

Jess,
Is it badly broken up or just cracked? An experienced welder/engineering shop should be able to assist. The manifold has to be heated & cooled etc etc. How old is the battery? Try another servo or go to a proper auto electrician if you are getting the run around. Plenty of wreckers around NSW & QLD. Email me for names & numbers if you like.
I don't mind answering questions. Manuel

Farmerjohn, that's really good to know. I've ordered the operations manual and service guide for this model so look forward to having some reference on it soon.

Hi, broke an exhaust manifold on a 300U once and had it welded. My brother broke the exhaust manifold on his 454D and had it welded. Still holding after 15 years. Just have to find someone that is good at welding cast iron.

Good luck
JB
