Well, Hugh convienced me to get a block heater for my M from a tractor talk posting the other day. I went out to see what type I need and there is no room between the radiator and block, so I look for a freeze plug and couldnt find one. Therefore, what type of heater do I get and where does it go? Thanks

Farmall Don, here's a suggestion that make a heater easy as pie. My kids bought me a magnetic block heater for my birthday after I had scrounged up this little B250 diesel. You can stick the heater on the oil pan, along the side of the block,on the thermostat housing..just anywhere on the engine. When you're ready to start just unplug and pull it off and set it on the bench. TSC handled these heaters and they weren't that expensive. I've used it a few times on the oil pan and after a few hours I have had easy starts..just a thought..... .Mike in Exeter Ontario

Don, Just installed a tank heater in Farmall M. The biggest problem was getting the original heat gauge adapter out of the block so I could install a close nipple and a "T" to accept tank hose and heat guage. Mine is a 1944 M so it's been in there a while. Use a lot of PB Blaster and take your time. I didn't need to heat it up. Mine came out fine but took about a week of treatment. Good Luck

I also have one of these on my JD430 and it works good. You usually don't need to keep it plugged in all the time if you can plug it in an hour or so before use. Have also seen people use lower radiator hose heaters in these.

Don,
You want an external type tank heater. 850 watt should be more than adequate. It gets plumbed between the block drain and the fitting where the temperature gauge line is screwed into the cylinder head. You'll need a pipe "T", a couple of nipples, and some 5/8 heater hose. I have them on both my H and M.
