I put new 30# non-det. in both this summer and now if temp. is at 10-20 below it takes half hr. of running before anything will begin to move, I was thinking of adding 20% fuel oil or truck fuel in them to thin down. What do you think.

I've a question relating to this - I've started my '47 H in -5 F and let it warm up for 15-20 minutes which I'd do just for the engine anyway. My hydraulics work fine - the engine rpm may drop a little more but the cylinder on my snow plow behaves - maybe a little slower initially. Am I running any risk of damage to the pump by using the 30W in these temps? I would think the only damage risk would be if one of the valves sticks - otherwise it would just be annoyingly slower.

BTW - I've found the best prices for oil in larger quantities (5 gal) - hy/tran or 90W or 80W90 - can be found at Wal-Mart.

I use Hy-Tran in mine year round and have no problems. I even have the old 450 psi pump and it lifts everything I need it to without problem.

I have been using straight 10/30 motor oil
in my H. I don't have any problems in the winter.

I would think that is too heavy for those cold temps. I'd used HY TRAN. You can also get its equivalent at your local NAPA store.
