Could someone please give me the IH part # for the wear sleeve that can be pressed on to the crankshaft pulley of a Super A to correct grooves worn in it. I am replacing the front crankshaft seal. I have replaced them on Cub's before and I do believe they are available for the Super A's. The normal parts guy at my dealership is gone this week and the replacement didn't act like he wanted to spend the extra time to look it up. I appreciate your assistance.

Scotty, you are correct, I guess I was assuming that everyone has free access to a lathe which of course is not true. Another approach I use is to examine the design of the original seal vs. the replacement, sometimes the lip of the new one will line up in an area that is not worn or in some cases the seal can be installed deeper in it's bore.

The part number is 378193R91. My dealer has 6 of them in stock ready to ship.

Speedy sleeves are expensive. I turn the OD down to the next seal size and buy the right seal from my local bearing supplier. I do this in other areas too, see photo 49 at the link. Those are rear axle shafts from a Super A.

Gauger, I have been a toolmaker/modelmaker for the past 32 years, the reason I didnt suggest machining as an option is that it is very expensive. While I could easily bring the crank pulley into work wnd turn it down and shrink a bushing on it, if someone were to pay for it you could just as easily go buy a replacement. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, Speedy Sleeves are expensive, but when I had this problem on a steering gear shaft, I found the Speedy Sleeve far cheaper than paying a machine shop to turn the shaft and fix the problem. Machining may be the best route if you have equipment available to do that yourself.

Jason, Unless that crank pulley is badly worn I would just polish the diameter and the new seal has enough flexability that it should work. You should also use some gear lube on seal and crank diameter when assembling to prevent wear to the new seal. If it is badly worn NAPA has speedy sleeves that should work.

If CIH really can't help you, take the pulley to a bearing supply house and ask for a Speedy-sleeve, or whatever brand they carry. They are specified by diameter, and maybe by length as well. Not cheap, but the best way to get rid of that annoying oil leak. I have used them for other things where the (expensive) shaft was still good except where the seal had worn into it.

Jason; The IH seal is #49117D, but the parts book does not list the wear sleeve. I would go to the local NAPA. They should be able to cross reference the seal # to get you the sleeve you need.

I got a seal for a Cub from caseIH sometime back and the wear sleeve came with the seal. Would think the SA would be the same way but apparently not?
